Narrative
While city officials did not return our calls, the Springfield News-Leader reported on November 1, 2006 that the new Shoppes at Branson Hills retail development (anchored by a Wal-Mart Supercenter and Kohl’s) is located in a sales tax increment financing district and community improvement district that also houses an adjacent Target and Home Depot recently constructed by the same developer. An estimated $48.5 million (half of the new sales tax revenue generated over the next 23 years) will be returned to the developer to cover the cost of infrastructure, including earth moving and streets. We divided this amount equally among the four anchors.
